JOAD Classes
J.O.A.D. and AAP Program
WHAT IS J.O.A.D.
JOAD stands for Junior Olympic Archery Development and is a program by USA Archery. JOAD is tailored for both the competitive archer and the recreational archer, offering competition training along with the chance to connect with local archers while improving fundamental archery skills. You don’t have to be a top athlete to be a top archer and gender doesn’t matter in this game. Everyone has the same opportunities to improve.
WHO CAN ATTEND OUR JOAD PROGRAM
We have a program to cover almost everyone. For our program we accept students 10 years old and up. The USA Archery JOAD competitions take members up to 20 years of age. We also have the AAP that allows adults to take the same classes as the kids and learn some of the same techniques. Also see Equipment section below.
AAP PROGRAM
Adult Archery Prorgram is just like the JOAD except it is for adults. It will follow the same instruction and award system that is in the JOAD.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS PROGRAM
This class is designed for those that want to excel in archery. Your current ability does not matter at this stage. We will take very beginning archers all the way to the most advanced expert archers. We will focus on form, execution, self-confidence & self discipline. Each student will learn to push themselves to do better. We will encourage the students to attend local, regional and even national tournaments. Once you have joined, you will become part of our JOAD Team.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED
You will need all of your own equipment to partake in this program. At Obsession Archery, we will focus on the Compound bow. We do not have someone to teach Olympic style recurve at this time.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE CLASSES
See Calendar for JOAD Dates.
All classes will be held indoors at Obsession Archery. During the summer months, we have access to a range at Beloit Field Archers for outdoor shooting and will have classes there also.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The JOAD system has lanyard and pin awards. Certain sessions will be held as a Pin Scoring night. The purpose is to test the skills you have learned and to try to achieve the next level pins. There are many pins that can be awarded depending on the score the archer achieves. We will also use the same pin awards for the adult members of our program.
WHAT IS THE COST
All students are required to be a member of USA Archery. Youth membership is $40/yr. Adult membership is $60/yr and Family membership is $120/yr. All students will need to select Obsession Archery as their club. Join USA Archery
Obsession Archery JOAD multi-session punch cards will sold in our store as follows:
$80 JOAD pass for 5 sessions
$160 JOAD pass for 11 sessions
$192 JOAD pass for 14 sessions
Each time you attend we will put a punch in your pass. This way you can miss a class but still have your pass for the next class.
WHO TEACHES THE CLASSES
The primary instructor will be Chris Christenson, owner of Obsession Archery. Chris has over 25 years of shooting experience and has taught hundreds of people how to shoot. He is a USA Archery Certified Level II Instructor and has also attended many of the top shooting schools in the country. At times, we will also have many guest instructors to help as well.
